VSL have announced the launch of Concert D-274 Essentials, a new entry-level version of one of their popular Synchron-series pianos. The library captures a Steinway D274 in the renowned acoustic of Stage a at VSL’s Synchron Stage Vienna facility, and is now available in an all-new Essentials variant alongside its Standard and Full counterparts.
The instrument in question was hand-picked by virtuoso pianist Stefan Mendl of Vienna Piano Trio, and is said to be amongst the best-sounding pianos in Vienna. Thanks to the acoustic of Stage A, the library promises to deliver a lush ambient quality, with a warm, resonant and detailed tone that VSL say captures the essence of the Steinway sound. The new packed-down version comes equipped with Room Mix and Close Mic signals, along with a collection of sound presets such as Concert, Intimate, Player, Pop, Ambience and Mighty. Although it features fewer velocity layers than the Standard and Full versions of the library, VSL say that it’s still more than capable of delivering a realistic playing experience.
Compatibility
Concert D-274 Essentials is supported on PCs running Windows 10 or above, and Macs running macOS 11 and higher. VST, VST3, AU and AAX plug-in versions are available. Authorisation is taken care of by PACE’s iLok system, and the library supports physical iLok USB keys and iLok Cloud sessions.

Concert D-274 Essentials is available now, and is being offered at an introductory price of $93€89, reduced from its full cost of $146€139 until 3 March 2025. An upgrade path from the Essentials edition to the premium collection is available.
