The brilliantly named Woodman’s Immaculate Maple Syrup Studio (or WIMS, for short) have announced the launch of their latest plug-in. Available to macOS and iOS users, WoodVerberator combines the usual capabilities of a convolution reverb with some handy extras such as built-in dynamics processing, de-essing, amplitude and pitch modulation, stereo field tools and more.
All of the parameters you’d expect to see in a convolution reverb plug-in are present, including adjustment over the decay time as well as damping and diffusion controls. Users are also able to import their own IR files and use them alongside the collection of built-in options. Rather than sticking to the basics, though, WIMS have included a collection of additional processing options that allow WoodVerberator to be used for creative sound design as well as producing realistic-sounding reverbs.
High- and low-pass filters are joined by a saturation processor, a delay and and both amplitude and phase modulation effects, all of which can be applied to the later part of the reverb effect thanks to a user-definable early/late boundary setting. There’s also built-in ducking and gating that can be driven by a side-chain input, as well as global high- and low-pass filters and an onboard de-esser. Users of the desktop version also benefit from support for surround and immersive output formats and a selection of 3D audio tools.
Compatibility
WoodVerberator is supported on Macs running macOS 14.4.1 and above, and is available in VST, AU and AAX plug-in formats. The App version is available on Apple devices running iOS 17 or higher.
