Digital distribution company XCHANGE Market Corp. have announced that they have now surpassed two million music software transactions.
Launched in 2009, XCHANGE was developed to provide a better alternative to selling audio software in the retail environment. At the time, the majority of software was largely being sold in physical form, meaning that codes printed on paper were being packaged and shipped around the world to be stocked in music retail stores and warehouses.
The XCHANGE platform carries out business-to-business sales, allowing retailers to order digital products from manufacturers and sell them on to customers online. As well as the service to retailers, manufacturers also benefit from a portal which provides them with easy access to their retail connections, making it possible to set prices, import codes for sale and manage promotions from a centralised interface.
This change in the way that software is distributed has meant that customers now receive licences for purchased software within seconds, rather than days or weeks. In addition to the reduction in costs, there are also benefits to the environment, too — the company’s recent transaction milestone also represents a huge saving in the amount of packaging and energy that would have been required to deliver over two million software licences physically!
