Yamaha Vintage Plug-in bundle announced

Channel strip, tape and stomp-box models

Yamaha have released three new bundles of VST and AU plug-ins, based on their VCM (Virtual Circuit Modelling) technology — the same modelling process behind the new Rupert Neve Designs Portico plug-ins, which we reported on back in April. The bundles are titled Vintage Channel Strip, Vintage Open Deck and Vintage Stomp Pack, and the plug-ins they comprise have apparently been derived from the effects found in Yamaha’s digital mixers.

The Vintage Channel Strip collection comprises three plug-ins, called EQ 601, Compressor 260 and Compressor 276, and these appear to be based on hardware processors from the likes of Drawmer and Universal Audio. The Vintage Open Deck collection, meanwhile, features models of what we assume to be Ampex and Studer tape recorders: the plug-ins in this bundle are called America ‘70s, Swiss ‘70s, Swiss ’78 and Swiss ’85. The final bundle, called Vintage Stomp Pack, contains models of classic pedal-format effects. We spotted a resemblance to the Mutron Biphase in the UI of the Yamaha’s Dual Phaser plug-in, while the Max 100, we presume, is an emulation of MXR’s Phase 100 pedal. The Vintage Wah, Vintage Phaser and Vintage Flanger plug-ins make up the rest of the bundle.

Pricing for the new plug-ins was yet to be announced at the time of writing, but Yamaha say this info will be announced soon.
