New Vox models

From battery power to ‘heritage’ amp

It’s good to see the veteran Vox brand so active — and never more so, with the launch of yet another clutch of new products.

The first two newcomers are the DA10CL and DA20CL, both based on the popular DA5 Digital Amp, but offering higher power. Despite that, and in common with the DA5, they will still run on C-size battery power, making them highly portable.

The 10W DA10CL and the 20W DA20CL offer 11 sound styles, ranging from clean to high gain, and an easy-to-use knob-based control panel.

The versatility of the DA10CL and DA20CL extends to 11 digital effects. Both amps feature auto-wah, chorus + delay, chorus + reverb, compressor, compressor + chorus, compressor + phaser, delay, flanger + reverb, reverb, rotary + reverb, and tremolo + reverb. There’s also a Tap button that makes it easy to set the delay time or modulation speed, and, like the larger AD Series of Valvetronix amps, editing the effects parameters on the DA10 and DA20 is said to be very simple.

As you’d expect, both models are well equipped with connection possibilities, enabling users to plug in MP3 or CD players, and they also feature an emulated line out, to give a ‘big amp’ effect for direct recording or listening through headphones.

The DA10CL will set you back around £125.96, while the DA20CL tips the scales at £139.57.

If something altogether meatier is more to your taste, Vox have also announced the launch of new models designed to commemorate the 50th Anniversary of their guitar amplifiers. One of the most eye-catching is the hand-wired AC30H2. Not just a reissue, this is a vintage-style amp equipped with modern tone-shaping enhancements. The ‘heritage’ angle comes from the use of the venerable EF86 preamp channel of 1958, combined with the 1963 Top Boost channel, both in one amp.

Expect a price of about £1,299 for this one.
