Paiste, of course, are no strangers to colour-coated cymbals, having originally developed their coating process back in the early 1980s for the ColourSound range. With their new Black Alpha range, designed in conjunction with Slipknot's drummer, Joey Jordison, they've gone back to this proprietary coating and come up with a range of seven black cymbals called the Slipknot Edition, matching the sizes and models of Jordison's setup.
The Black Alpha cymbals are made from B8 bronze using the latest technology and are hand hammered using traditional methods. The logo, model type and Slipknot logo are silk-screened in gold on to the black ColourSound coating, giving them a highly distinctive look.The models available are: 20-inch Metal Ride; 17-inch, 18-inch and 19-inch Rock Crashes; 18-inch Rock China; 14-inch Sound Edge hi-hats and a 10-inch Metal Splash. Aimed squarely at metal-heads, Paiste describe these models as bright, aggressive and focused, while the ColourSound coating adds extra bite and a raw presence to the overall sound character.
