Embody, who specialise in developing AI-driven spacial audio technology, have announced the release of a major update to their Immerse Virtual Studio Signature Edition room modelling plug-in. This latest version now features two virtual Dolby Atmos studios, as well as boasting optimised integration with Cubase, Nuendo and WaveLab thanks to a new partnership with Steinberg.
Recognising that the demand for content mixed in immersive formats such as Dolby Atmos is increasing, but that a properly configured physical multi-channel system is still out of reach for many artists and engineers, Embody and Steinberg are aiming to provide a solution that allows those without access to such facilities to begin creating mixes in the popular new formats using their headphones. The software is also capable of providing those who do own or have access to immersive rooms with an alternative system that can be used when working away from the studio.
The plug-in supports formats from stereo up to 7.1.6, and comes equipped with EQ profiles for over 50 popular models of headphones.
New Room
When first released, the plug-in featured a virtual model of Alan Meyerson’s studio at Hans Zimmer’s Remote Control facility in Santa Monica, which is equipped with an ATC 7.1.6 monitoring system. This most recent update adds a second room in the form of Lurssen Mastering, the Dolby-certified mastering room owned and run by Gavin Lurssen and Reuben Cohen. The models of both rooms have been meticulously tuned by ear, with extensive A/B comparisons between the real and virtual spaces carried out by Embody’s engineers during the development stage.
“We’re thrilled to offer this exclusive Mix and Master Bundle of Immerse Virtual Studio Signature Edition to our valued users. Now, everyone can virtually take a seat in two world-class studios and produce world-class content at a fraction of the cost compared to complex acoustic studio treatment.” - Timo Wildenhein, Head of Pro Audio at Steinberg
Personalised HRTF
To ensure that the plug-in provides the most accurate spatial experience possible for each individual, Embody have developed a mobile application which allows users to create their own personal HRTF (head-related transfer function) profile for use within the software. The application captures images of the user’s head and ears using the device’s camera, and connects to a remote server which carries out the necessary processing to produce the customised profile. Once complete, the file is loaded into the plug-in where it is used to tailor the audio output to the specific user.
