Fiedler Audio have announced the upcoming release of Dolby Atmos Composer, and Dolby Atmos Composer Essential, two plug-in packages which allow users of any DAW to create immersive audio content in the Dolby Atmos format, even those that do not natively offer multi-channel support. Officially approved by Dolby Labs, the plug-in facilitates the routing, rendering and 3D panning of DAW signals and allows the results to be exported as standard ADM/BWF files.
Dolby Atmos Composer communicates with a DAW using a second plug-in called Dolby Atmos Beam, which can be inserted on a track in order to provide 3D panning capabilities, allowing users to position their sound sources around the listener. Positions can be quickly set to predefined speaker positions, and movement with a mouse can be recorded as DAW automation to allow for creative panning effects.
Monitoring can be configured directly from within the main plug-in without the need for any external applications, and multi-channel speaker systems in configurations up to 9.1.6 supported. There is also support for headphone monitoring using personalised HRTF (head-related transfer function) files, providing binaural monitoring for those who are either working without physical immersive speaker systems, or using headphones as a secondary mix reference.
Once a project is complete, a mix can be exported as a ADM or BWF file for all major Atmos-capable platforms, or a binaural stereo file for platforms and devices without Atmos support.
An Essential version of the software, which offers a limited feature set and omits some of the advanced functionality such as channel groups, downmix settings, loudness measurement and pan mode selection, is also available at a reduced price point.
Version 1.5 and above of the company’s Spacelab plug-in can also be integrated directly into Dolby Atmos Composer, where its sources can be used as dynamic objects within an Atmos mix.
Compatibility
Dolby Atmos Composer is supported on PCs running Windows 7 to 11, and Macs running macOS 10.14 up to 13. VST2, AU and AAX plug-in versions are available.
