The latest version of Tracktion’s DAW software has arrived, delivering some significant enhancements to clip launching, track automation and overall performance.
Clip Launching
Waveform 13.5 benefits from a number of enhancements to its Clip Launcher, which are said to streamline recording, optimise playback, refine arrangement capabilities and improve launching precision. It’s now possible to specify the desired duration of a recorded clip, while a Legato modes helps to create fluid, expressive performances and a Nudge feature allows users to precisely adjust a launcher clip's playhead position. The update also brings with it three new launch modes: Gate, Toggle and Repeat, which are said to be ideal for creating polyrhythms or intense stutter-like effects
Automation
The update also delivers clip-level automation that allows users to apply automation directly to their Audio or MIDI clips. It can be applied to clips both in the Arranger or Launcher, and by layering automation techniques and combining linked and unlinked curves, users are able to quickly craft unique-sounding gates, risers and rhythmic patterns. Automation-curve handling has been enhanced too, and now benefits from greater precision when shaping automation movements. There’s a variety of customisable shapes available, and it’s possible to bypass curves with a single click, or to scale or skew automation selections with the powerful new curve adjuster.
Real-time visual feedback has been added along with dynamic, per-track ‘A’ icons that confirm automation is actively in progress. Waveform 13.5 offers four distinct automation modes, each of which are colour-coded to help users identify which mode a given track is in. Classic Touch and Latch modes have been added to enable seamless live refinements and nuanced control.
Performance
In addition to the changes to the automation and Clip Launcher systems, the update implements a series of behind-the-scenes optimisations that Tracktion say result in a smoother, more responsive user interface and a faster, more seamless experience, ensuring users enjoy uninterrupted creativity during demanding sessions.
Compatibility
Waveform 13.5 is supported on PCs running Windows 10 or higher, and Macs running macOS 10.15 and above. It has also been tested on Linux Ubuntu 20.04 and Raspberry Pi 3 Model B 64-bit.
