New Radical1 soft synth from Sound Radix

Early 'preview release' version now available

Sound Radix Radical1 additive software synthesizer

Sound Radix have built up a solid reputation with their collection of audio processing tools, both among mixing and post-production users. Their latest release, though, marks their first foray into virtual instruments, and delivers a powerful new additive soft synth that promises to offer a clearer, more intuitive way of working.

Radical1 is still at an early point in its development, but Sound Radix have chosen to offer a ‘preview release’ version for early adopters to dive in and help influence the final version. The instrument revolves around additive synthesis, and features a neatly laid-out GUI that has been designed to provide users with a clear overview of its signal path with no hidden routing options, as well as detailed visual feedback that helps to keep track of exactly what’s going on behind the scenes.

At present, the preview release is only available for Mac users — a Windows version is planned for release in early 2026.

Key Features

Radical1 is still in the early stages of its development, but here's an overview of what's already on offer:

Engine & Synthesis

  • Patent-pending additive engine capable of generating tens of thousands of oscillators in real time with minimal CPU usage.
  • Clean, accurate frequency response up to Nyquist with no aliasing and no oversampling
  • Morphing Fluid Oscillators for smoothly transitioning timbres and continuously reshaping harmonic structures.
  • Direct Spectrum Drawing generators for hands-on harmonic sculpting.
  • Spectral Sample Resynthesis for turning recordings into fully controllable additive structures.
  • Spectral shaping tools, harmonic modifiers and a real-time spectral display.
  • Polyphonic, per-voice processing and modulation.
  • Ultra-fast, sample-accurate envelopes for sharp transients and detailed expressive control.

Workflow & Modulation

  • ‘What You See Is What You Hear’ workflow with fully visible layers, modules, blocks and modulation paths.
  • Unlimited layers for building complex, multi-part patches.
  • Unlimited modulation sources with clear visual routing and instant feedback.
  • Starred parameters for immediate access to your most important controls.
  • Scalable, high-resolution interface designed for clarity and speed.

Effects & Processing

  • Built-in MIDI Effects Rack for arpeggiation, sequencing, note shaping and performance behaviours.
  • Time-Domain Audio FX Rack for filters, dynamics, spatial tools and creative processing.
  • Spectral Block FX for harmonic-domain bending and spectral transformation.
  • Modular signal flow that lets you place spectral audio effects exactly where you want them.

For Deep Divers

  • Formula Blocks for writing custom DSP code directly inside Radical1 (tone shaping and synthesis processing limited only by imagination).
  • Direct access to internal modulation streams, harmonic structures and spectral domains.
  • An expanding collection of modules and blocks for advanced sound design.

Integration & Expansion

  • MPE-ready expressive control.
  • Expanding library of presets, modules and effects.

Compatibility

Radical1 is supported on Macs running macOS 10.14 and above, with a Windows version set to arrive in early 2026. VST3, AU and AAX plug-in versions are available.

Pricing & Availability

Radical1 is available now, and is currently (11 December 2025) being offered at an introductory price of $129, reduced from its full cost of $199; there’s also a rent-to-own option. a free trial version is available, too, and those who decide to purchase the instrument during its development stage will be granted a full license for the final release version when it arrives.
