If you’ve not already booked your ticket for this year’s GearFest UK, now’s the time! Come along to Tileyard London to check out some of the best gear in the industry, meet producers, engineers and musicians from across the UK, and attend a series of free panel talks. As always, demos will be running throughout the day in the TYX Dolby Atmos studio, giving you a chance to check out some immersive mixes on a 7.1.4 Neumann system.
Panel Talks
Once again, we’ll be hosting a series of panel talks on the Sound On Sound stage. Here’s a quick look at what’s happening throughout the day:
Everything You’ve Ever Wanted To Know About Atmos (But Were Afraid To Ask) | 12:00pm to 1:00pm
Immersive audio is here to stay, with record labels now routinely demanding Atmos mixes and streaming platforms prioritising releases that exploit the technology. Join SOS Editor in Chief Sam Inglis and leading Atmos specialists Penny Eau, Emre Ramazanoglu and Stan Kybert as they answer some of the key questions about working with Dolby’s ever-popular format.
Present Day Production & Stefano Civetta: The Real Secret To Getting A Great Mix (And It’s Not Your Monitors) | 1:30pm to 2:30pm
Join Present Day Production co-host and mastering engineer Mark Ashfield, and chief engineer of School Farm Studios Stefano Civetta as they present ‘The Real Secret To Getting A Great Mix’. The discussion will be supported with a YouTube video released on the day, where Stefano and Mark take you through an in-the-box mix. You’ll be able to download the multitracks for free to experiment with, and gain a better understanding of their approach.
Tony Faulkner Engineer | 3:00pm to 4:00pm
We are delighted to be joined by Tony Faulkner, one of the world’s leading classical music engineers, who will be talking to Sam Inglis about the science and the art of music recording. Tony is a firm believer in getting things right at source — a philosophy that shines through in the all-analogue, straight-to-stereo productions he’s recently been making for turntable specialists SME.
MixBus Live! with Kevin Paul | 4:30pm to 5:30pm
Once again, we’re thrilled to host Kevin Paul as he brings his Mixbus podcast to the GearFest stage. Kevin is a producer, mix engineer and audio educator who’s worked with artists including David Bowie, Depeche Mode, Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds and Goldfrapp.
