IK Multimedia launch ARC On Ear

ARC range gains headphone-focused hardware unit

IK Multimedia ARC On Ear hardware headphone correction system

Back in 2024, IK Multimedia introduced a new device that delivered a standalone hardware version of their ARC monitor-correction system. Now, the company have announced the launch of ARC On Ear, which puts their technology to work on headphone correction.

Aiming to improve both the frequency response and stereo imaging accuracy of connected headphones, the ARC On Ear employs calibration profiles that have been measured using state-of-the-art reference gear, and already supports hundreds of popular headphone models. As well as improving the performance of connected headphones, the system is also capable of emulating a range of alternative playback systems — over 20 virtual studio monitors and 15 multimedia playback systems are available at launch — allowing users to audition their mixes on a variety of virtual systems without taking off their headphones.

The new system comes housed in a compact, portable enclosure that pairs a 32-bit ESS D-A converter with a high-quality amplifier and digitally controlled volume control — digital audio can be received via USB, and analogue sources are accommodated by a 3.5mm TRS socket. IK Multimedia say because the calibration profiles utilised by the system have been created using the unit’s own onboard amplifier circuitry, the system is capable of delivering precise and reliable correction across a wide range of different headphones. a dedicated software control application is available, allowing users to configure and fine-tune the system from their computer, as well as storing up to five calibration profiles. Helpfully, the unit is kitted out with a rechargable battery, and is capable of running for up to four hours on a full charge.
