Following on from the release of Ivory 3 German D in 2023, Synthogy have announced the launch of the next release in the series. Ivory 3 American Concert D captures a New York-built Steinway Model D, and benefits from all of the advanced features introduced in the latest version of Ivory, including its Continuous Velocity feature and MIDI 2.0 support.
The piano used to create the new library has been fully restored by master concert technician Michel Pedneau, and was captured at Françoys-Bernier Concert Hall in Québec — the same location used for Ivory 3 German D. Powered by Synthogy’s Real-time Gradient Blending (RGB) engine, Ivory 3 is said to behave like modelling technology while maintaining the complex, realistic sound offered by sampled instruments. A standout feature is the Continuous Velocity function, which Synology say overcomes the limitations of velocity layers and provides real-time velocity-to-timbre changes at every attack velocity. The instrument also boasts MIDI 2.0 support, meaning it is currently capable of accepting 16,384 CC88 values via the protocol’s Velocity Extension feature, and will support the full 64,536 values that will be offered by MIDI 2.0 16-bit High-Resolution Velocity.
Other features new to the latest iteration of the instrument include a new-look GUI, which has been treated to a ground-up redesign focused on providing a fun and intuitive way to access the power of the the RGB engine. Multiple microphone signals are provided, with a mixture of close and room mics offering a wealth of tonal options, and each signal can be routed, mixed and processed using a comprehensive built-in mixer. Those looking to stray away from traditional piano sounds will enjoy Ivory 3’s Synth Layers feature, which provide a range of additional sound sources — including an Ensemble Strings patch created by Audiobro — along with envelope controls and a dedicated processing channel within the mixer.

Ivory 3 American Concert D is supported on PCs running Windows 10 or above, and Macs running macOS 10.15 and higher. VST3, AU and AAX plug-in versions are available.
