Audient have announced the upcoming launch of a new 24-in / 32-out audio interface that features eight of their renowned preamps. The iD48 promises to deliver exceptional audio performance thanks to the use of 32-bit ESS converters — which boast a dynamic range measurement of 126.5dB at the D-A stage — and also includes a new Switchable Analogue Insert system that offers some flexible signal processing options.
As with all of the iD-series offerings, the new interface is kitted out with the same preamp design used in the company’s flagship ASP8024-HE console, which boast impressively low noise and distortion measurements. They’re capable of delivering up to 68dB of gain, and each channel comes equipped with +48V phantom power, pad, +10dB boost, polarity inversion and high-pass filter functions. All of the local mic/line-level inputs are provided on rear-panel XLR/TRS combo sockets, and for those who need more inputs, up to 16 additional preamps can be added via ADAT/SMUX or S/PDIF thanks to four Toslink connectors. Host computer connectivity is provided by a USB-C socket, and the iD48 is capable of delivering 24 inputs and 24 outputs simultaneously over USB 2.0.
Dedicated Main and Alt line-level speaker outputs are present on quarter-inch TRS sockets, and the iD48 offers some built-in monitor control functionalities. On the front panel, you’ll find two JFET-based instrument inputs and a pair of headphone outputs that boast a dynamic range of 124dB and are capable of driving headphones with impedances of up to 600Ω.
The iD48 also features balanced insert points for each channels, which are present on a pair of rear-panel DB25 connectors. In addition to allowing other gear to be patched in between the interface’s mic preamp and converter stages, Audient’s new Switchable Analogue Insert feature makes it possible to route DAW signals through the insert path, allowing users to apply outboard processing to their DAW signals on a per-channel basis. Signals can also be patched into the insert returns, allowing users to bypass the mic preamps and record directly into the interface's converters.
”Since we launched the iD Desktop Interface Range, our customers have been shouting for us to deliver an eight-channel iD audio interface, so we are extremely excited to announce that it is finally here. The iD48 is the ultimate Audient interface, building on the core feature set that has made the iD range so popular, delivering astonishing audio performance alongside an incredibly intuitive user experience — but this time with more than enough I/O to handle any session.” - Andrew Allen, Product & Marketing Director, Audient
