Flock Audio have announced the upcoming launch of a new device that brings their renowned digitally controlled analogue routing technology to the instrument world. Employing the same technology used in their Patch range, the Switch allows users to quickly toggle between up to eight mono or stereo instrument sources.
Housed in a compact desktop enclosure, the Switch features a single rotary control that surrounds a large LCD screen. Users are able to switch instantly between their input sources by rotating the control, and the screen can be configured to display a name and other information for each of the device’s input channels. All of the signal routing takes place in the analogue domain with no A-D/D-A conversion, meaning that there’s no latency, and Flock say that the device offers a completely transparent signal path. In addition to input switching, the unit also offers per-channel bypass/mute functions, which can be engaged by pressing or holding down the rotary control. As with the Patch systems, the system can be configured using an accompanying software application.
All of the Patch’s connectivity resides on the rear panel, with a set of 16 quarter-inch TRS sockets handling the inputs, and a pair of XLR connectors delivering the final stereo output. Connection to a computer is provided by a USB-C socket, and the Switch is bus-powered.
“The Switch is a new product category for us designed to directly address the needs of artists and engineers who use synths and other analogue instrument inputs in their work and want a physical interface with Patch-style control and flexibility. The Switch offers seamless operation and enhanced creative flexibility in both live and recording environments, and the large LCD display rotary knob makes it incredibly easy and frankly, fun to use.” - Darren Nakonechny, Founder and CEO, Flock Audio
