The latest arrival to Acustica’s plug-in collection combines algorithmic and convolution-based reverb techniques, offering a versatile tool that can be used both for creative sound design and mixing tasks. Rice comes loaded with over 100 algorithms, and promises to tackle everything from subtly enhancing vocals or instruments to crafting expansive cinematic soundscapes.
Rice comes equipped with a simple set of controls, with the expected pre-delay, size and mix parameters joined by a Spectral Shaper slider that ‘smoothes out’ resonances and provides some tonal shaping of the reverb signal. A Stereo Aliver dial allows users to enhance the effect’s stereo image — Acustica say that it goes beyond what’s possible with typical widening processors, and allows the plug-in to create immersive spatial effects. Further control over the tone of the reverb signal is provided by a built-in graphic EQ, which is complemented by a visualiser display, and the plug-in offers left/right, Delta and Mid-Side listening modes.
Rice offers a choice of two GUI options: a hardware-inspired 3D version and more modern-looking 2D design.
The collection of algorithms are divided into 10 categories: Large Hall, Deep Hall, Soft Hall, Ambience, Chamber, Bright Room, Deep Room, Tile Room, Short Plate and Reverse Plate. Each category includes 10 algorithms inspired by a range of hardware, physical spaces and creative concepts, allowing the plug-in to cover a huge range of classic and modern reverb sounds. The plug-in is also loaded with an extensive collection of factory presets.

Rice is supported on PCs running Windows 10 or 11, and Macs running macOS 10.15 and higher. VST, VST3, AU and AAX plug-in versions are available.
