Unveiled at the AES 2025 show in Long Beach, California, the CC8-SC becomes the second pencil mic to join Austrian Audio’s line-up, and offers a supercardioid alternative to the existing CC8.
As you’d expect, the latest offering shares the same physical design as its cardioid counterpart, and combines Austrian Audio’s OCC7 capsule with high-quality transformerless circuitry, a pairing which the company say delivers a carefully tailored frequency response. The CC8-SC is said to boast a natural sound character that doesn’t suffer from any harshness, even at extreme volumes — the mic is capable of withstanding SPLs up to 155dB — while responding well to EQ. The supercardioid pattern of course means greater rejection of sounds arriving at the sides of the mic than the CC8, and importantly, Austrian Audio say that the mic boasts a “best-in-class” off-axis response.
