Reason Studios have released BV-X Multimode Vocoder. Available as both a Rack Extension for their popular Reason DAW software, and also for third-party DAWs via the Reason Rack Plugin, the BV-X provides users with easy access to classic vocoder sounds whilst introducing some welcome new features. An Auto Play mode, for example, allows the vocoder to track the user’s voice and create sounds without playing any MIDI notes at all. More traditional means of operation are still available, and two distinct modes — Vintage and Modern — provide a wide range of possible sounds, from classic robotic voices to more subtle harmony effects. For those wishing to dig a bit deeper into sound design there is a powerful Modulation Matrix, allowing users to modulate wavetables with the level of their voice, as well as freezing the effect when silence is detected, and much more.
“Vocoders are truly unique effects, but they have always been a hassle to use, requiring several connections to even get sound," said Mattias Häggström Gerdt, Music Making Product Manager at Reason Studios. "With the BV-X we’ve focused on making it easy to set up so the producer can focus on what’s creative and fun: manipulating the effect and finding your own, great sound.”
BV-X can be used in both the Reason Rack Plugin (VST3/AU/AAX) and the standalone DAW. It is compatible with Reason 10.1 and later, whilst the included Combinator patches require Reason 12.
BV-X Multimode Vocoder is available now for Reason+ users as part of their subscription, or as a separate purchase priced at £99 (inc VAT) through Reason Studios’ add-on shop.
