Cloud Microphones, makers of the Cloudlifter range of in-line microphone preamplifiers, have expanded their microphone line with the Cloud 44, a passive version of their recreation of the iconic RCA Type 44 ribbon microphone, the Cloud 44-A. You can read our full review of the 44-A here.
Cloud state that the ribbon motor design remains true to the original Type 44, and is handcrafted to the exact specifications prescribed by RCA in the 1930s, however everything else has been upgraded using state-of-the-art materials, manufacturing processes and technology. The microphone features an all-black finish and comes complete with a shock mount. To provide users with flexibility, each Cloud 44 also ships with its own Cloudlifter CL-1 (in a matching black finish) essentially allowing the microphone to be used as an active ribbon whenever desired.
“I’m a ribbon mic fanatic, so this represents a major labour of love for me,“ says Rodger Cloud, the company’s founder. “You wouldn’t believe the number of times we’ve been asked to offer a passive version of our flagship 44-A over the past few years, so we couldn’t be more excited to introduce this latest addition to our family”.
The Cloud 44 is available now through authorised Cloud dealers, with a MAP of $1499.
