In a slightly surprising move, Bandcamp, the popular independent music platform, has just been acquired by video game developers and publishers Epic Games. Bandcamp co-founder and CEO Ethan Diamond has released a statement reassuring current and future users that the platform for selling and promoting music and associated merchandise will continue to operate as before, while Epic are hoping to use the same creator-friendly sales model to provide a similar platform for independent game and media creators.

“We couldn’t be more excited to welcome the Bandcamp team to Epic Games,” said Steve Allison, Vice President at Epic Games. “Bandcamp has built an incredible community and business where up-and-coming artists can succeed thanks to the direct support of their fans, with one of the best revenue models and terms in music. This aligns closely with Epic’s approach to supporting creators across all media and enabling them to connect directly with their fans.”
