Eve unveil SC3010 and 3012 three-way monitors

New RS6 ribbon tweeter is centrepiece of new monitors

Eve Audio SC3012 three-way monitorGerman studio monitor specialists Eve Audio are keen to differentiate themselves with their latest three‑way monitors, the SC3010 and SC3012, both of which employ a new and much larger Air Motion Transformer than is used in any other Eve design. Conceived and built in Berlin, the new monitors are well‑suited for use in larger recording studios, mastering suites and post‑production facilities.

The SC3010 and SC3012 powered monitors house 10‑ and 12‑inch LF drivers respectively and, in a first for the company, both also use a five‑inch Rohacell sandwich-diaphragm woofer. According to Eve designer Roland Stenz, Rohacell was chosen because they wanted “the lowest possible distortion in combination with a stiff diaphragm... to increase the sound-reproduction detail response for the mid-range frequencies”.

The new monitors are also the first Eve Audio models to feature the newly developed RS6 Air Motion Transformer. According to Eve, the AMT’s larger size and increased folded diaphragm area are designed to achieve a higher SPL and cover a wider frequency range, with a crossover point as low as 1800Hz.

As with all Eve Audio monitors, the frequency-response parameters are controlled by high‑resolution DSP, with A‑D conversion from Burr‑Brown. In addition, as the Class‑D amplifiers are connected directly to the DSP section, no additional conversion is required before the amps.

The speaker cabinets combine plywood with a special inner construction to reduce undesired resonances. Meanwhile, the silver mid-range unit that houses the tweeter and the midrange speaker can be rotated for use in both vertical and horizontal orientations, depending on the studio setup. For soffit-mounted installations, all necessary acoustic filter modifications are achieved when filter controls are set to ‘in‑wall’, and the rear‑facing bass ports can be blocked with supplied foam material.

Expected to become available in September 2014, the Eve Audio SC3010 and SC3012 will carry a list price of $8400£4999 and $13400£7999 per pair, respectively.

The new speakers will be on display at the upcoming Musikmesse exhibition in Frankfurt, and we hope to get a closer look at them there.
