FMC 2022 Film Music Contest

This year’s Film Music Contest officially launched last month (June 2022), with all music and film artists able to submit their compositions and films featuring original scores. Featuring a total of four categories, the contest is the largest of its type in Europe, and is and open to all sound designers, bands, musicians, instrumentalists, producers, filmmakers, and videographers worldwide, with no age limits.

With the competition now in full swing, here are some details on the first two categories.

Instrumental Music

FMC Instrumental Music film music contest competitionThis category is intended for original studio recordings, live recordings from concerts or performances, or demo recordings, and is open to composers, soloists, instrumentalists, chamber groups, ensembles and orchestras of all ages and nationalities. Compositions that have already been publicly presented or released are welcome, as are completely new recordings, and all genres and types of instrumental music are being accepted. Musical compositions in this category must have a maximum length of six minutes, and be submitted in the MP3 format. If the music has been involved in a film, TV series, commercial or video game, or was composed for this purpose, it should instead be submitted to the Music for Film, TV, Ads, Video Games category.

Music for Film, TV, Ads, Video Games

FMC Music for Film, TV, Ads, Video Games film music contest competition Open to composers, musicians, producers, sound designers, filmmakers and video makers of all ages and nationalities, this category is intended for music that has been made for picture. Submissions must be original material, and may include music that has already featured in a film, TV series, video, advert or video game, or music that has been composed for that purpose. All styles and genres are welcome, and entries can be composed using any virtual or live instruments, bands, orchestras, ensembles or choirs. Once again, studio, demo or live recordings are all welcome.

FMC are accepting both music entries (for those without accompanying visuals or cases where the video rights are not available), and video entries. Music entries must again be submitted in the MP3 format with a maximum length of six minutes. Films and video entries must be submitted via public or private (with a password provided) YouTube or Vimeo links, with a maximum length of 10 minutes. For longer feature films and videos, entrants should either choose a section that they believe best expresses their music, or prepare an edited version of the whole piece.

How To Register

Registation is open to all sound designers, bands, musicians, instrumentalists, producers, filmmakers, and videographers worldwide, with no age limits. 

Contestants have a few months to register for FMC 2022, the deadline for registration and submission of all entries is 12 September 2022. Registration for all categories is available via the official FMC website: https://www.fmcontest.com
