Italian guitar pedal specialists Foxgear have released the Baroni AFK150, a pedal-sized 150W Class D guitar amplifier that features a dual-channel valve preamp section. Featuring a compact and robust construction and coming equipped with speaker outputs and a line output with cabinet simulation, Foxgear say that the device is equally at home in the studio or as part of a live performance rig.
The unit’s preamp uses an ECC82/12AX7 valve and features two channels, Clean and Drive. Each channel comes equipped with its own individual volume and gains controls, as well as a dedicated three-band equaliser. Master Presence and Volume controls are on offer, and an on-board buffered effects loop can be configured for either series or parallel operation. Foxgear say that the Clean channel has been designed to recreate the warmth and brilliance of vintage amps of the ‘blackface’ era, whilst the Drive channel has been based on their award-winning Gurus Doubledecker MkII preamp pedal, recreating the sound of high-gain British stack amps.
The rear panel of the AFK150 hosts all of the input, output, effects loop and foot-switch connections on quarter-inch jacks, as well as an IEC power inlet.
The amplifier features two parallel speaker outputs, and the device is capable of delivering 150W RMS when driving a 4 Ohm cabinet. A line output is also provided which can either carry a direct output, or have cabinet simulation applied via a switch on the top panel for direct recording or connection to a PA system in live situations. The top panel also features a foot-switch for channel selection, but a connection on the rear panel is also provided to allow the use of external switches for applications where the AFK150 is being used on a desktop or on top of a cabinet. The unit’s wooden end cheeks are also removable to enable easier pedalboard mounting where required.
The Baroni AFK150 is available now, priced at $599£549 including VAT.
