Debut 500-series module announced

Gainlab Audio’s announcement for The NAMM Show 2026 was a new high-quality headphone amp, which interestingly, comes in the form of a double-width 500-series module. Designed for studio use and mobile rigs alike, the Auditor is said to offer uncompromising sound quality and reliability, as well as implementing some features designed to protect users’ hearing and headphones from damage.

The Auditor is built around a Class-A output stage that Gainlab say is capable of delivering exceptionally low distortion and a linear frequency response, as well as boasting significant headroom. The design allows the unit to drive a wide range of impedances with ease, with enough power on tap to satisfy even the most demanding professional models. The design promises to perform well, too, with ultra-low distortion figures and a precise transient response helping to deliver an accurate, uncoloured response that’s well suited to critical listening.

Technical prowess aside, the company have paid attention to safety, not only taking steps to ensure that connected headphones aren’t damaged, but also implementing some features designed to help protect users’ hearing. Comprehensive protection against the likes of DC offset, overcurrent and power-on transients help to safeguard both hearing and connected headphones, while clear power and line-level indicators offer immediate visual feedback about operating conditions.

Basic monitoring functions such as mono summing and muting are provided on front-panel switches. Helpfully, the Auditor passes the incoming line-level signal through to its line outputs, allowing it to be daisy-chained to additional monitoring devices or recording equipment.
