Buy The Software You Use
The focus of IMSTA, the International Music Software Trade Association, has turned to computer users in Great Britain, with the opening of a UK office for the organisation. The goal of the Association is to “change end-user behavior in order to reduce the demand for pirated software”, using their “buy the software you use” maxim.
IMSTA are a not-for-profit organisation based in Canada, with branches all over the world, as far afield as India and Japan. Their focus is on tackling software piracy through education campaigns, and they are well known in the industry for their ‘T-shirt days’. (Regular readers may have spotted coverage of the event at the 2008 Winter NAMM show.)
Stephanie Sobey-Jones, IMSTA UK’s ‘ambassador’, commented “many people still aren’t aware that piracy in one industry sector has a knock on effect in others. Every lost sale makes it harder for software companies to keep updating our favourite programs... If we can educate people to think more seriously about the consequences of software piracy, that’s a big step in the right direction”.
Keep your eye on IMSTA’s web site, and look out for their little blue logo. And remember, buy the software you use!
