IK Multimedia have announced a guitar adaptor and an amp- and effects-modelling app for Apple’s iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad mobile devices. On the hardware side of things is the iRig interface, which has a high-impedance quarter-inch jack input, a 3.5mm jack output that connects to your iPhone, and a mini-jack headphone socket.
The app, apparently a cut-down version of IK Multimedia’s popular Amplitube guitar-processing software, is available in three versions: Full, LE and Free. The Full version features five amp models (Crunch, Clean, Lead, Metal and Bass), 11 effects pedal models (including the usual distortion and overdrive effects, plus chorus, delay, flanger, wah and octave), five cabinet models and a choice of condenser or dynamic microphone. A tuner and metronome are present also, and IK Multimedia say that you can import songs and backing tracks to play along with.
The LE version includes five stomp-box models, one amp, one cab and two microphones, while the free version provides three stomp boxes, but keeps the amp, cab and choice of mics.
IK Multimedia iRig Full and LE are priced at $19.99 and $2.99, respectively, while the iRig interface will set you back $39.99.
