Described as an entire ecosystem of reverberation and reflection, Mode Audio’s latest release is said to be capable of delivering everything from realistic room sounds to vibrant, expansive atmospheres and echoes. Airspace combines a pair of powerful convolution reverb engines with a range of stereo delay effects, and also includes a dedicated modulation section.
The plug-in has been built around a collection of over 450 impulse responses, which are organised into 11 category folders: Amplifiers, Drums & Percussion, Found Percussion, Kitchen, Piano, Experimental Textures, Hardware Reverbs, Loops, Real Spaces (Long), Real Spaces (Medium), Real Spaces (Short) and Springs & Plates. As a result, it’s able to emulate the sound of an array of real buildings and physical spaces, as well as a selection of hardware effects and instruments, and an assortment of more unusual offerings that can be used to transform incoming sounds into ambient drones and textures.
There are two reverb engines present, making it possible to ‘mix and match’ a pair of impulse responses in order to create new, unique sounds. Both reverb sections are equipped with an AHR envelope along with Predelay and Env[elope] Curve parameters, and also feature wet/dry mix controls and IR Gain/Size controls that make it possible to adjust the perceived size or length of the loaded response. A central module houses a delay effect with independent left and right Delay Time and Feedback controls and resonant low- and high-pass filters.
A Delay Mod section follows, allowing users to modulate the left and right delay times and panning using a pair of LFOs with five selectable shapes. Finally, there’s a four-octave pitch-shifter that can be applied to and blended with the delay signal, and can either be placed inside or outside of the delay loop.
Compatibility
Airspace is supported on PCs running Windows 11, and Macs running macOS 10.13 or higher. VST and AU plug-in versions are available.
