European developers DIRE Studio have released Mother Global Settings, an editor app for Moog’s Grandmother and Matriarch synthesizers, available now for Mac and iPad. Founded in 2008, DIRE Studio is a privately owned company that creates professional digital tools for photographers and filmmakers, and is now extending its expertise to musicians.
Mother Global Settings replaces the hardware’s system of adjusting global parameters with a clear, rack-inspired interface where every setting can be reached in two taps or clicks. All values are displayed on screen for instant feedback, helping players keep track of levels and avoid mistakes during performance. The app also adds functionality not present on the synths themselves, such as direct sequence selection on the Matriarch, fine control over MIDI output, glide options, arpeggiator gate length and a dedicated panic button.
Settings can be saved as presets for archiving or sharing, with quick recall when needed. Keyboard shortcuts offer access to performance-related controls like gate length, swing, and glide, while connectivity via USB or 5-pin MIDI ensures flexibility for both stage and studio setups.
The app requires macOS 13.5 or later on Mac, or iPadOS 18 or later on iPad, with beta operating systems not supported. Compatible instruments include the Moog Grandmother (v1.1.3), Grandmother Dark Edition (v1.1.3), Matriarch (v1.3.0), and Matriarch Dark Edition (v1.3.0); users may need to update their synth firmware to the latest version before use.
