Sound Skulptor have recently introduced a new 500-series module that delivers a new and improved version of their valve-based mic preamp. Equipped with high-quality transformers and sporting a new high-pass filter, the MP566-II employs a dual-triode valve and draws its inspiration from a selection of classic 1960s designs.
The overall design remains the same as the original module, but with the new variable high-pass filter taking the place of the toggle switches that occupied the centre of the front panel; the preamp’s pad, polarity and phantom power functions are now handled by a trio of buttons that sit to the right of the main controls. A pair of large pots take care of gain and output level control, and there’s a quarter-inch input that can be used to connect instrument-level signals.
Key Features
- Dual triode design.
- Input and output transformers.
- 70dB gain will please even the most demanding ribbon mics.
- Variable feedback and output level for total control over tube saturation.
- Continuously variable high-pass filter (12 – 320 Hz).
- Input pad for hot mics or line-levels signals.
- Full 225V valve supply and full 150mA valve heater.
- Quarter-inch DI jack, high-impedance input for instruments.
- Sequenced power-up to limit the total inrush current.
- Total idle current draw less than 150mA.
- Available assembled or as a full kit (everything included).
DIY Option
