Pocketrak 2G & KX keyboards

Yamaha's latest announcements
The latest new product from Yamaha is the new Pocketrak 2G (left). One of a number of solid-state field recorders launched at the NAMM show, the Pocketrak stands out by virtue of its particularly diminutive size, but doesn’t skimp on features.

There’s a built-in stereo mic and a headphone jack, and your MP3, Wave or WMA-format files can be recorded to 2GB of built-in memory before being transferred to a Mac or PC via USB. Steinberg’s Cubase AI sequencer is included to help out in this respect. The Pocketrak 2G will ship in April at a cost of $449 in the USA, and about £250 in the UK. For further details, click here.

Yamaha also showed a new range of KX controller keyboards. Available in four sizes, from 25 keys to the full 88, these connect to a computer by USB, and ship with Cubase AI and a special version of the Halion One soft synth. The KX keyboards are designed to integrate very closely with Cubase, with dedicated buttons for the most-used functions. They also include an arpeggiator that allows the user to fire off complex phrases at the touch of a key.
