STL Tones reveal Tonality: Wes Borland

Captures Limp Bizkit guitarist's studio & live rigs

STL Tones Tonality Wes Borland guitar amp effects modelling plug-in

STL Tones’ Tonality range comprises a collection of plug-in suites that emulate the rigs of some of the industry’s top guitarists, producers and mix engineers. The latest title has just been announced, and delivers the signature sound of Wes Borland, best known as the guitarist of Limp Bizkit.

Developed in collaboration with the man himself, Tonality: Wes Borland has been created using the company’s hardware modelling algorithms, capturing the sound of a selection of Wes’ go-to studio and live amps, along with a range of his favourite overdrives, effects pedals and speaker cabinets.

There are three amps included in the collection. The first is based on the Roland JC-120 Jazz Chorus, a two-input amp renowned for its clean tone that’s been a mainstay in Wes’ touring rig. A Diezel VH4 follows, a 100W amp equipped with four distinctly voiced preamps that each have independent gain, EQ and master controls — the amp was behind many of the guitarist’s heavier tones from the early 2000s. Finally, a 1965 Selmer Zodiac 50 MKII Tremolo offers some saturated breakup tones reminiscent of vintage UK combos.

The company have also captured all of Wes’ touring cabinets with five different microphones, from a total of 156 positions, providing users with a wealth of impulse responses that can be loaded and adjusted within the plug-in. As for effects, the suite includes emulations of an Electro-Harmonix Mini Q-Tron and Big Muff Pi, along with a Boss DD-8 Digital Delay, Dunlop Echoplex Delay and an Ibanez CF7 Chorus/Flanger.

Tonality: Wes Borland is supported on PCs running Windows 7 or higher, and Macs running macOS 10.9. VST, AU and AAX plug-in versions are available, along with a standalone application.
