Studio downtime auction — on eBay until 27th October

Bid for time in Dean Street Studios, London
Dean Street Studios, located in Soho, London, have become the first commercial studio to auction off their downtime on eBay. The auctions, which the studio aim to run monthly, gives bands the opportunity to place bids on the spare time at the studio, which in turn generates revenue for Dean Street (albeit not at full rate), and offers bands on tight budgets to be in with a chance of recording in a respected London studio.

The winners of the first Dean Street auction were The Draytones, who picked up a day of studio time for just £200. Included in the price is the use of the studio equipment (including an SSL AWS900+, Pro Tools HD3 system and Westlake monitors), plus help from in-house engineers.

Dean Street has an interesting history: Tony Visconti ran his Good Earth Studios from the site and worked with the likes of David Bowie, U2 and Moody Blues. Dusty Springfield made her last ever recording there and, more recently, Stephen Fry visited the facility to record the voice-over for the Harry Potter audio books.

The latest Dean Street downtime auction is now on eBay, and will finish just before midday on Saturday 27th October. To bid, visit eBay and search for item 170161493210.
