TC Electronic Powercore 6000

Best of both worlds

TC Electronic have announced a new derivation of their Powercore DSP processor. The Powercore 6000, as it’s called, comes with the algorithms that feature on the company’s flagship System 6000 reverb and mastering processor, and has eight of the same ‘Freescale’ DSP chips as used in the System 6000 hardware. It also has on-board SRAM that enables it to support “high performance” reverbs and delays, such as those found on the flagship processor.

The new system uses hardware that’s very similar to the latest Powercore, the X8. As such, it uses Firewire to connect to the host machine, which can be a PC or a Mac. By having the sounds of the System 6000 capabilities inside the Powercore infrastructure, users don’t require multiple audio inputs and outputs and facilities for complex routing as they do with the outboard processor. Instead, they simply load plug-ins in a VST- or Audio Units-compatible host application.

There are seven plug-ins included with Powercore 6000: VSS3, Nonlin2 and DVR 2 equip the user with “three of TC Electronic’s best reverbs”, while MD3, Brickwall Limiter and UnWrap have all the tools needed to turn good mixes into great masters. TapFactory, TC’s multi-tap delay plug-in, also included, is based on the System 6000 Reflector algorithm, and can be set to have a total of 24 taps.

In mainland Europe, the TC Electronic Powercore 6000 costs 2999 Euros. The UK price is to be confirmed.
