Undertone Audio have announced the launch of a plug-in that brings the sound of their renowned Fairchild recreation to DAW users. Developed in collaboration with Mixland, UTA‑D UnFairchild 670M promises to capture the vibe and character of the hardware unit, while bringing some helpful additional features to the table.
The GUI replicates the layout of the hardware unit, with an independent set of controls (Input Gain, Threshold and Time Constant) for each channel and the option to operate in individual or linked stereo or Mid-Sides modes. A panel at the bottom of the plug-in then offers Attack, Release and DC Threshold parameters for each channel, along with external and internal side-chain options. The company say that they spent over six months experimenting and refining the plug-in’s design, and that the final result represents a painstaking recreation of the hardware unit.
They also decided to add some additional extras that aren’t available on the hardware version. You get an output level control along with a wet/dry balance that allows for instant parallel compression, along with an Overall THD control that provides adjustment over the amount of harmonic distortion produced by the plug-in.
Compatibility
UTA-D UnFairchild 670M is supported on PCs running Windows 7 or higher, and Macs running macOS 10.7 and above. VST3, AU and AAX plug-in versions are available.
