SE Electronics launch RF SPACE

Upgraded Reflexion Filter unveiled at exclusive event

We got ourselves over to Sonic Distribution HQ, the UK home of SE Electronics for an exclusive unveiling of the company's latest and greatest hardware. The most significant for SOS readers is likely the RF SPACE — a new reflexion filter that has been two years in development. Ever since SE launched their first reflexion filter, now called the RF Pro, in 2006, they have dominated the market. In the intervening eight years though, several other companies have released their own take on the reflexion filter, but where their designs use acoustic foam for sound absorption, SE use their own patented multi-layer design which offers wide-band absorption instead of just high frequency attenuation.

The RF Filter SPACE — which stands for Specialised Portable Acoustic Control Environment — builds on the original multi-layer concept of the RF Pro, more than doubling the thickness of the filter to 40mm, and increases total surface area by 20 percent. SPACE employs vertical air chambers and thicker layers of different acoustic materials yet is no heavier than the original RF Pro. The result, claim SE, is a colourless acoustic control environment that delivers far superior mid- and low-frequency control, and greater isolation. The SPACE Reflexion Filter will retail for £299$399 and will be available in June. Here's James Young from SE Electronics who gives us a proper run through of all the features and development process.

It's also worth noting that the mounting hardware has been completely redesigned to offer great flexibility of placement. Manufactured by a drum hardware company, the new hardware is very sturdy and should be a welcome relief for those who had problems with the original RF Pro's mounting hardware.
