Apple have announced a new version of Logic, their acclaimed MIDI + Audio sequencing software.
Latest features include new audio editing tools, better support for surround recording and mixing, and a number of neat songwriting helpers, which are designed to make the process of writing as streamlined as possible.
Apple have also made it easier to get started with Logic, and the application now comes with what Apple call 'production-ready templates' that enable you to launch into your creative workflow in a jiffy.

Probably one of the most significant changes is the alteration to the application's user interface. Apple are promoting Logic as a single-window application, in which all of Logic's panes can be displayed on a single page. In theory, this should make workspace management easier.
Apparently responding to users' requests, Apple have improved Logic's arrange page editing functionality, by allowing users to edit to single-sample accuracy. They've also allotted space for two channel strips to be displayed on the left-hand side of the user interface, rather than just one, meaning, for example, users can display the selected track as well as the master output.
Significantly, Apple have changed the format in which users buy Logic. The full version of Logic Pro 8 is bundled in the Logic Studio collection, which also includes Soundtrack Pro 2 and MainStage, a new application that's aimed at live performers. Of course, there are the collection of virtual instruments and effects that shipped with Logic Pro 7 (including a new multitap delay plug-in), as well as some new utilities, such as an impulse response tool that makes creating impulse responses for Space Designer easier.
Amazingly, the Logic Studio bundle costs just £319 — a surprisingly low price, considering the extras that are included. Logic Express 8 is also available as a stand-alone application for £129, but it doesn't include the Space Designer convolution reverb.
