Compact Mixer
Last year, SSL launched the Matrix console at the Frankfurt Musikmesse; at this year’s show, it was the turn of the X-Desk. Designed to be at the heart of high-end project studios, it’s a ‘superanalogue’ line mixer with eight dual-input mono channels, stereo and mono auxiliary sends and comprehensive monitoring control.
Each channel features a 100mm fader, plus controls for panning, sending signals to the auxiliary buses, and setting the level of the 'small fader'. A well laid-out monitoring section has a talkback section complete with chunky, tactile buttons reminiscent of SSL’s larger consoles. Two stereo returns that have pan, level and routing control enable a further four channels of audio to be connected to the device for 20-channel mixdown.
Connections for the main inputs and outputs are on 25-pin D-Sub, and multiple X-Desks can be cascaded to build a huge 150-input mixdown system.
It costs £1926 including VAT. Visit SSL's web site for more details.
