Spitfire Audio have announced the launch of Mervyn Warren Choir, a new virtual instrument created in collaboration with five-time Grammy Award-winning producer and composer Mervyn Warren. The release focuses on capturing the expressive power and unique timbre of the Black choir sound outside of a traditional gospel context, and delivers a versatile collection of vocals that lend themselves to everything from pop and R&B production to cinematic film, TV and game scoring.
Captured at Evergreen Studios in Los Angeles with Emmy Award-winning engineer Frank Wolf, and featuring a lineup of world-class vocalists including Alvin Chea (Take 6), Stephen D. Mackay II (The Voice) and Nikki Grier (American Idol), Mervyn Warren Choir promises to deliver an “unparalleled choral experience that blends authenticity, soul and cinematic versatility.”
Key Features
- Authentic Black Choir Sound: An industry leading virtual instrument capturing the distinctive timbre and expressive depth of a Black choir outside of a gospel context, led by the visionary Mervyn Warren.
- Vocal Articulations & Techniques: A rich palette of vowels, yeahs, hums and morphable longs; expressive legatos; aleatoric hairpins for unpredictable movement; and an extended bass range reaching down to A0. Stacked and morphed combinations allow users to build truly human, powerful choral textures.
- Body Percussion Kit: An extensive kit of handclaps, stomps, fingersnaps, thigh slaps and chest beats adds rhythmic expression and organic energy.

- Unique Timbres & Extended Range: Expressive sopranos, buttery altos and “Mega Bass” foundations push the boundaries of the choral instrument, combining richness, warmth and extraordinary dynamic range.
“People own many orchestral libraries, many guitar libraries — each with their own character and flavour. They should also own many choirs for the same reason. Amazing voices with such versatility — perfect for jazz, R&B, pop and film scoring.” - Mervyn Warren
