AES 2008: SE Electronics RNR1 (Video)

Active Ribbon Microphone

During the AES show, Editor In Chief Paul White got the chance to speak to Siwei Zou, owner of SE microphones, and industry legend Rupert Neve, who have joined forces to bring a range of high-end microphones to the SE stable.

The RNR1 is a solid-state ribbon mic built with a transformer-input, transformer-output design, using discrete class A components and circuitry similar to that found in the Rupert Neve Designs 5088 mixer.

Future Rupert Neve-designed mics in the SE range will include a tube model, which marks a departure from Rupert's long history with solid-state designs. We'll bring you more information on this and any other developments involving Rupert Neve and SE Mics.

In the meantime, here's what happened when Paul met Siwei and Rupert!
