AIR Music Technology’s latest plug-in offers a modern take on the multi-effects hardware units of the 1980s and 1990s. Combining distortions, reverbs, delays, modulation effects and more, AIR Sprite comes loaded with a vast collection of presets and a comprehensive set of controls, promising to be as simple or as complex as the user desires.
The plug-in’s main view offers a simplified overview of the current settings, with five main parameter sliders followed by five individual effects slots: Distortion, Mod 1, Mod 2, Delay and Reverb. Each slot is equipped with a pair of faders that are mapped to key effects parameters, and can be engaged or bypassed simply by clicking its central icon. There are nine types of distortion, three delay modes and eight reverb room options. In terms of modulation, the first slot can be loaded with Flutter, Wow, Tremolo and Auto-Pan effects, whilst the second offers a choice of Chorus, Multi-Chorus, Phaser or Flanger.
A dedicated Edit page then reveals a more in-depth set of controls for each effects slot, along with a Pitch-Shift section, a two-band EQ joined by dedicated high- and low-pass filters, and a compressor. There is also an additional three-band Output EQ with a parametric mid band, and an Envelope Follower function which allows the incoming audio signal to control the delay section’s feedback amount, or delay and reverb’s mix control level. Lastly, some final adjustment is provided by a set of master Width, Gain and Limiter controls.
