Following on from the recent release of their entry-level electronic drum kit, Alesis have just introduced a new option in their mid-range Nitro series. The new Nitro Ultimate is a nine-piece kit that’s been designed to offer a complete practice-to-performance solution, and promises to bridge the gap between entry-level and professional electronic drumming.
Alesis say that the latest addition to the Nitro range addresses two key points: authentic hi-hat performance and dedicated amplification. Aware that many electronic kits comes equipped with hi-hat controllers that don’t deliver an authentic playing experience, they’ve kitted out the latest offering with a 10-inch dual-zone hi-hat with a stand-mounted controller that’s compatible with traditional hi-hat stands. The move offers a significant step up from simple trigger-based setups, offering players a similar feel and level of control that they’d expect from an acoustic kit.
The new system is built around the company’s advanced drum module, which comes loaded with a total of 52 complete kits (36 factory defaults and 16 user-programmable slots) and over 640 individual drum, cymbal and percussion hits. It’s also supplied with a copy of BFD Player and the Dark Mahogany Expansion Pack, complementing the onboard sounds with a collection of plug-in-based alternatives.

Alongside the new kit, Alesis have also announced the introduction of a new compact floor wedge-style amplifier designed specifically for use with their electronic drum kits. The Nitro Amp Pro houses an eight-inch low-frequency driver and 2.5-inch tweeter and delivers 80W of power, and includes an onboard two-band EQ for some tonal shaping.
As for connectivity, the unit features a pair of balanced line-level inputs on quarter-inch TRS sockets, and offers wireless audio streaming via Bluetooth.
