Tascam have announced the launch of a new utility software application aimed at field and multitrack recordists. Available for Windows and macOS systems, Audio File Manager allows users to quickly confirm the content of recorded material, as well as helping them to organise their files and prepare them for the next step in the production process.
At its most basic, Audio File Manager is a file browser that displays the waveform of every file within a selected folder and provides a wide range of additional functions. Users are able to quickly zoom in and out of the waveform to take a closer look at the audio material, offering a visual indication of any severe issues such as clipping or missing sections. A set of built-in editing tools then provide some fine-tuning, with cut, copy and paste functions joined by mute and normalise buttons.
The software also includes some handy organisational features, with users able to rename multiple files simultaneously or add specific characters to the beginning of file names in preparation for mixing and post-production sessions. As well as working with the user’s local storage, Audio File Manager also integrates with network-based storage systems, and even with a range of popular cloud-based services such as AWS Storage, Google Drive and Dropbox.
In addition to standard stereo files, Audio File Manager can also play multitrack WAV files via its built-in mixer. Sampling rates from 44.1 to 192 kHz and resolutions of 16-bit, 24-bit, 32-bit float and 32-bit integer are supported, and the software is capable of reading a wide range of popular audio file formats including WAV, MP3, AIFF, AIFC, SD2, MP2, MPEG-4 and M4a.

Audio File Manager is available now, and can be downloaded for free from the Tascam website.
