Launched at this year’s NAMM show, the PDX720 Signature Edition is the latest dynamic microphone from Audix. Designed specifically with vocal recording in mind, the microphone features a hypercardioid polar pattern and promises to deliver smooth, natural-sounding vocals with great low-end extension, as well as boasting an output level that eliminates the need for any in-line signal boosters.
Removing the cap on the underneath of the PDX720 reveals a pair of three-way toggle switches which can be used to engage both a high-pass filter and presence boost. The former can be left bypassed or switched in at 120 or 155 Hz, whilst the latter provides users with +1.5 and +3 dB boost options.
Despite being primarily designed for vocal applications, the PDX720 is also said to be a good fit for drum and instrument recording duties, with the company saying its defined high-frequency response is capable of delivering clarity without sounding harsh.
Audix say that only the highest quality components and materials are used in the PDX720 to ensure the best possible sound quality and reliability, with design, machining, assembly and testing all taking place at their facility in Wilsonville, Oregon.
