Boss unveil new digital multitracker

Boss extend their multitracker range with a 16-track recorder
Boss have introduced a new machine at the top of their range of guitarist-friendly digital multitrack recorders. The BR1600CD is a 16-track machine and offers eight phantom-powered XLR mic inputs and eight-track simultaneous recording at 16-bit/44.1kHz to a built-in 40GB hard disk. The multiracker is also equipped with a CD-RW drive and a USB port for CD burning, data transfer and storage.

Each channel has its own compressor, three-band EQ and low-cut filter, and there’s an an extensive range of effects, including Boss reverb, delay and modulation effects, COSM modelling effects for guitar, bass and vocals, the Vocal Toolkit, which includes pitch-correction and harmony-generation algorithms, and a dedicated mastering section offering multi-band compression.
Programmable drum and bass tracks (which make use of sampled sounds) can be found on tracks 13 to 16, while tracks 11 and 12 house a stereo loop phrase track. The multitracker is pre-loaded with a range of loops, though users can always import their own from a CD or via USB, in WAV or AIFF format.
There are two headphone outputs with individual volume controls, stereo analogue outputs, co-axial S/PDIF I/O, MIDI In and Out, eight line inputs and a high-impedance guitar/bass input. The BR1600CD should be available later this month, and costs £1999.
