JMG Sound and United Plugins have announced the release of what they say is the ultimate distortion plug-in. Boasting three independent distortion modules that each offer a choice of 64 different modes, Cyberdrive is capable of producing everything from subtle warmth to all-out chaos, and comes packed with built-in tools and processors to help shape its sound.
The plug-in’s 64 distortion modes are divided into eight categories, covering a wide range of sounds that include classic analogue hardware, guitar and bass amplifiers, effects pedals and more unusual offerings that take advantage of ring modulation and FM-style effects. Along with a set of drive-focused parameters, each of Cyberdrive’s three distortion modules also house variable high- and low-pass filters with a selection of slope options. Those in search of more extreme sounds will enjoy the Feed module, which makes it possible to create screaming feedback effects, and comes equipped with a number of delay modes that can be used to fine-tune their timing.
A row of modules along the bottom of the GUI provide a range of dynamics (compression, gating and transient shaping), tonal (EQs and filters) and modulation (chorus, flanger and tremolo) processors, along with built-in cabinet simulation, and even some time-based effects such as delay and reverb. To ensure that users have as much control over the results as possible, the processing modules can be freely reordered using a simple drag-and-drop interface.
