Erica Synths’ latest collaboration with renowned DSP effects developer 112dB combines a selection of distortion and overdrive effects with a unique waveshaper algorithm, and delivers a powerful new standalone effects unit that’s capable of everything from “nuanced harmonic enhancement to total sonic destruction”.
Housed in a rugged aluminium enclosure that matches the company’s other desktop effects, the Xenodrive certainly sticks to the usual Erica Synths format. Its collection of effects benefit from a wealth of physical controls that have been designed to offer a hands-on approach to sound design both in the studio and on stage. The unit boasts a true stereo signal path, and packs in a compressor, overdrive, waveshaper, EQ and noise gate, along with an envelope follower that can be used to modulate the waveshaper.
Audio I/O is provided by four quarter-inch TRS sockets, and there’s a footswitch connection that allows bypass, freeze or patch navigation to be assigned to an external switch. |t’s also possible to control every parameter (apart from the Input Gain and Volume dials) via MIDI, with In and Thru connections provided on five-pin DIN sockets.
