FabFilter promise more musical approach to reverb

Fabfilter release Pro-R reverb plug-in

Promising a more musical approach to reverb, Pro-R is the latest plug-in from FabFilter. It combines a range of different room algorithms with a Retina-ready interactive spectral display and a variety of user-friendly and, in some cases, rather unusual features.

Pro-R puts justified emphasis on the decay portion of the reverb, which is so important in determining the character of the sound. In a real room, the decay time can vary wildly in different parts of the frequency spectrum, and the plug-in’s six-band parametric Decay Rate EQ lets you adjust exactly that. The real-time spectral analyser helps to visualise the decay time at different frequencies, while a six-band Post EQ section is also provided for final adjustment. Elsewhere, the controls are deliberately labelled with user-friendly musical terms rather than numerical values, as is the case with the Brightness (dark/bright), Character (clean/lively/chorus) and Distance (close/far) parameters. The central Space control adjusts the decay time and room model simultaneously, and there are also controls for decay rate, stereo width and wet/dry mix. Pre-delay is also adjustable and can be tempo-sync’ed. FabFilter Pro-R is available now for Windows and MacOS in VST, VST3, AU, AAX, RTAS and AudioSuite formats. It costs £149$199 and we are looking forward to bringing you a review in the magazine soon.
