HEDDphone D1 from HEDD Audio

Latest headphones feature Thin-Ply Carbon Diaphragm drivers

HEDD Audio HEDDphone D1 high-end studio mixing headphones

HEDD Audio’s HEDDphone and HEDDphone TWO were distinctive due to their use of the same AMT (Air Motion Transformer) technology that powers the company’s renowned studio monitors — and were the only headphones to do so. The company have just announced the launch of the HEDDphone D1, which instead employ dynamic drivers, but still manage to claim another world’s first thanks to the use of Thin-Ply Carbon Diaphragm (TPCD) technology.

Developed in collaboration with Composite Sound of Sweden — specialists in advanced diaphragm design and manufacturing — the D1 is said to embody HEDD’s decade of innovation and the forty-year legacy of the company’s founder, Klaus Heinz. HEDD say that the idea of bringing Thin-Ply Carbon into headphone design first came to them eight years ago, and has now finally been realised through extensive development and refinement. They’re obviously confident in the results, claiming that the technology developed for the new addition to the line-up “redefines what a dynamic driver can be”.

Thin-Ply Carbon (TPC) is composed of ultra-thin layers of carbon that have been precisely aligned and bonded, and is prized for its exceptional stiffness-to-density ratio, low mass and resilience. As such, it has become the material of choice where performance is of key importance — use cases include everything from the chassis of Formula 1 cars to NASA’s Mars helicopter, Ingenuity!

HEDD Audio say that the TPCD drivers’ precisely engineered diaphragm controls resonances on a structural basis, eliminating the need for traditional damping materials at the diaphragm level, and allowing faster, cleaner and more accurate motion across the audible spectrum, and offer the following benefits:

  • A transducer with the precision of a studio monitor, yet the intimacy of a high-end headphone.
  • An ultra-light diaphragm and compact driver design that enable a comfortable, lightweight form factor.
  • Sonic clarity and tonal accuracy for audiophiles who seek fidelity and balance, built for long, immersive sessions without fatigue.
  • Moderate impedance (32 Ω) and sensitivity (100 dB) for easy pairing with most sources, while scaling gracefully with premium amplification.
  • Brings professional, studio-grade precision to personal listening, without the usual trade-offs.

Every model is made in Germany, with its custom TPCD diaphragm produced exclusively by Composite Sound in Sweden. All components are fully serviceable, and HEDD Audio confidently back the design with a five-year warranty
