IK Multimedia have announced the release of X-Monitor, the software control application for their recently released iLoud Precision range of studio monitors.
The new iLoud Precision monitors feature built-in ARC calibration, allowing users to tune the speakers to their acoustic environment using an included MEMS measurement microphone. X-Monitor makes this process even easier, offering step-by-step instructions and visual feedback on the calibration progress and providing details on the final results.
A dedicated Contour page allows users to adjust specific frequency ranges, with or without ARC, to suit their needs and tastes. These settings are then stored by the monitors and recalled automatically each time the speaker is powered on. Once a favourite profile is loaded, X-Monitor is then only needed when users wish to change settings.
The software also controls Precision monitors’ ability to emulate the frequency and phase response of the most famous studio monitors on the market, providing the ability to test mixes on different virtual reference systems using a single pair of speakers. There are currently over 20 speaker emulations available.
X-Monitor provides access to the rear panel controls of each monitor, making it easy to adjust the settings for individual speakers or linked pairs. From the software, users can adjust the low-frequency extension, low, high and mid-frequency contours, standby timer setting, speaker delay and more.
The user interface also includes a virtual version of the iLoud Precision Remote Control, an optional hardware switch that allows users to instantly switch settings via four illuminated buttons. The X-Monitor software can be used to assign a different function to each one of the switches, such as auditioning different speaker profiles for A/B checks, dimming, system mute, ARC on/off, standby and more.
