Kirk Hunter Studios release Chamber Strings Adaptive

Ensemble patches boast per-section articulation control

Kirk Hunter Studios Chamber Strings Adaptive expressive playable orchestral sample library Kontakt

Kirk Hunter Studios' latest releases captures a chamber string section comprising six violins, four violas, four celli and two basses performing at First Presbyterian Church in Santa Monica, California, and is described by the company as “the world’s most playable and flexible chamber strings library”. Chamber Strings Adaptive features both ensemble and per-section patches, all of which boast identical features to ensure a consistent playing and programming experience.

The library comes loaded up with a wealth of short and long articulations, and when playing the ensemble patches it’s possible to assign articulations on a per-section basis, offering the convenience of playing multiple instruments at once while still retaining control over the playing style of each section. The selection of short and long techniques are joined by five legato types: polyphonic, non-polyphonic, intense, mild and bowed, and it’s possible to configure patches to switch articulations based on playing velocity rather than relying on keyswitches.

The Home Page offers access to a range of presets that govern the response of the instrument sections and sound of the room, as well as articulation selection and switching options and control over the likes of dynamics and vibrato settings. A Mixer page then provides users with per-section level, panning and sample purge functions, along with a three-band parametric EQ and three microphone position options (Near, Mid and Far). You even get independent per-note level controls, and detailed editing of the library’s dynamics and vibrato options.

There are a huge number of parameters than can be assigned to a controller, from instrument volumes, panning, EQ and other mixer functions to performance-based features such as articulation switching, vibrato control, portamento style, release sample volume and much more.

Chamber Strings Adaptive requires the full version of Native Instruments’ Kontakt 6.6.1 or above, which is supported on PCs running Windows 7 or higher, and Macs running macOS 10.9 and above.
